Doris was a loving wife to her husband, Robert Lee Derby of Conroe. She was Mama to her sons Jesse James Sachtleben and wife Lyndia of Helotes TX, and Kurt Miller and Brent Miller of Conroe TX. She was Grandma to 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was a friend to all.
Growing up, Doris worked in her parents' restaurant in San Antonio. After moving to Conroe, she worked in the old Gibson's store for many years, and more recently in the Cracker Barrel gift shop.
Service was her calling, and veterans were her passion. As member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 734, she received the Associate of the Year awarded by the State of Texas in 1997. A 37-year member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, she gave many hours of her time volunteering at the Montgomery County Fair, creating Buddy Poppy displays, and collecting for the National Home for Children, which was dear to her heart. Doris served as Chaplain and President at both auxiliary and district levels for Post 4709 and District 17.
Doris was gracious and poised and had a flair for fashion. She loved dressing up and always looked the beautiful lady she was. Gentle, kind and comforting, if she was unable to reach out and give you a needed hug, she would let you know she was hugging you in her heart.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but she leaves us with wonderful memories that will always bring a smile to our heart. Always remember her last famous words, “SEE YA DOWN THE ROAD”.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the VFW Post, 1103 W Semands Street in Conroe.
