Gerri Lynn Gates was born the 13th of June 1959, in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of Frank and Serena (Bynum) Burgess. Gerri's Daddy, Johnny Malcolm, her mother, Serena Malcolm, and her older brother, Frank Burgess Jr., all preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Krystina ‘Tina’ Cummings and husband Kenneth of Willis, Texas, and William Gates and wife Monica of Conroe, Texas. Her grandchildren; Selena Serrano, Timothy Stowe, Justin Gates, Loryn Gates, Morgan Smith, Ansley Gates, Lilly Cummings, and Gracey Cummings. Her three great-grandchildren; Jaxon, Freya, and Killian. Her sisters Theresa Franklin, Vicki Schenck, Michelle Burgess, and Allison ‘Penny’ Templin, brother Richard ‘Speedy’ Burgess, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gerri is remembered by many as a devoted mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, niece, cousin, mentor, and friend. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and never met a stranger. Recently she relocated back to Conroe, Texas, after residing in Athens, Texas, for several years to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Earning her Nursing Aide Certification in April of 1992, she dedicated the next thirty years, until her departure, devoting her time to serving others in numerous nursing homes. She was employed at Heritage Oaks Memory Care Facility in Conroe, Texas. Gerri’s hobbies include crocheting along with other crafts, but most importantly, she loved to spend time with her family.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, the 26th of May 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Cashner Funeral Home. Family requests guests to wear bright colors in honor of Gerri. Followed by a gathering with food and refreshments at the Grangerland Community Center.
