Funeral Services for Gussie Virginia “Granny” Wells, 93, of Conroe will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 10:00 AM in the Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Rutherford officiating. A visitation will take place Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Metcalf Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at the Freeman Cemetery in Grangerland, TX. Serving as pallbearers are Kyle Gates, Jason Fay, Timothy Stowe, William Gates, Justin Gates, and Alex Galan.
Mrs. Wells was born in Conroe on October 1, 1931, and passed away May 11, 2025 in Conroe. She was preceded in death by her parents, William T. & Gertie Jane Wells, her son, Billy John Gates and Daughter, Barbara Elaine Gates Chance. Gussie also was preceded in death by Brothers, Son Wells, Bunk Wells, James William Wells, Leslie Ernest Wells and Franklin D. Wells; Sisters Agnes Wells Hayden, Nan Elizabeth Wells Ainsworth, Gertie Belle Wells Moon, and the Blocker twins; her Grandsons Ryan J. Gates and Kenneth Cummings; her Nephews, Timothy Ainsworth and William Lee “Bull” Wells and Nieces, Paula Ainsworth Hasara and Madiera Moon.
She leaves behind her daughters, Marleane V. Gates and Beverly Jeanne Gates Fay; Son, Bobby M. Gates & wife, Vickie and Son-in-law, Jack Chance; a Sister, Mollie Margie Hardcastle and a Sister-in-law, Elsie Martinez Wells.
Gussie will be missed by her Grandchildren, Janet Chance & husband, Dwayne Franklin, Jackie Wayne Chance and partner Jacqueline, Tina Gates Cummings, William J. Gates & wife, Monica, Kyle W. Gates & partner, Jessie, Kara R. Gates & partner, Michael, Moriah Munoz & husband, Diego, Derek McDaniel & partner, Jade, Winter McDaniel, Wade McDaniel, Timothy Jason Fay & wife, Monica, and Joshua D. Fay. Her Great Grandchildren, Mark Galan & wife, Paige, Katy “Katydid” Galan, Zach Galan, Alex Galan, Cheynne Franklin, Cierra Franklin, Lil Zach Franklin and David Franklin, Allie Chance, Aimee Chance, Asher Chance, Selena Serrano, Timothy “Tator” Stowe, Morgan Smith, Lilly Cummings, Gracey Cummings, Justin Gates, Loryn Gates, Ansley Gates, River, Ben Muniz, Dallas McDaniel, Eli McDaniel, Sophia Munoz, JoJo, Cam, KayKay and Gabriel J. Fay. Her Great Great Grandchildren, Priscilla Galan, Claire Galan, Eleanor Galan, Ryler Galan, Amelia Galan, Lucas Galan, Camila, Freya Leslie Serrano, Cash Curnel, Jaxon Cummings, Ryder Gates, Araina Lynn Oviedo. Gussie will be missed by numerous great nephews and nieces that number between 80 and 100 people.
