Joyce Elaine Nutter, age 82, went peacefully to be with the Lord on September 21, 2010 in Conroe after several months of illness.
Born November 21, 1927 in La Grange, TX, to Fred W. Nutter, Sr. and Blannie Dampier Nutter. Joyce was the beloved special child in the family whom her dad, Fred, once referred to as the “light of his life”.
Growing up in Conroe, Joyce lived with her dad and stepmother “Nanny” until they passed away. She was under the care of Brazos Valley MHMR in Brenham for 20 years before moving back to Conroe for her last 7 years. She lived at Strake House Assisted Living before finally moving to Park Manor Skilled Nursing Facility.
As one friend aptly described Joyce, she was “quite a gal”. She was genuinely friendly to strangers, forthright and frank when it came to offering her opinion, which she usually held to quite strongly. She could be affectionate and sweet with loved ones but one knew when she was crossed.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Fred W. Nutter, Sr. and Blannie D. Nutter, stepmother, Alpha C. Nutter, brother Fred Nutter, Jr. and step-brother Reggie Simmons as well as sisters Mildred Harris and Geraldine Oualline, and step-sisters Marie Goodale and Peggy Hogue. Survivors include brother, Richard (Dick) Nutter who devotedly served as her guardian and primary caregiver over the last 25 years. Aunt Joyce also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10 am, Monday, September 27th at Oakwood Cemetery in Conroe. Visitation will be Sunday, September 26th from 5 to 8 pm at Metcalf Funeral Home.
Special thanks from the family to Dr. Glen Berwick for his care over the last years and also to the caring staff at Park Manor Nursing Home.
