Kathleen “Kathy” Lee McQueston passed away on May 1, 2023 in Houston, Texas. She was 69 years old. Kathy was a strong, vivacious, and passionate woman. She loved her family and friends fiercely. She was a friend to all, even strangers at the grocery store.
Kathy was born on April 21, 1954 in Ware, Massachusetts, to Stanley and Dorothy Miknaitis. In 1978, she married George McQueston. George and Kathy resided in Hockley, Texas, and were together for 50 years before her death. George and Kathy had two daughters, Jennifer and Jessica. She was excited to be a grandma to Emmalynne Lee later this year. She is preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Dorothy, and several other loved ones. She is survived by her six siblings: Stanley “Butch,” Roger, Michael, Gary, Wendy, and Eileen “Beanie.” She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Kathy had numerous careers throughout her life, but her passion for children was a central focus. Before her retirement in 2019, she was employed with Klein Independent School District as an educational assistant for 21 years. She spent numerous years working with students with disabilities. Her final position was working at Lemm Elementary as a library assistant. She was passionate about sharing her love of children’s books with students.
In her free time, she enjoyed taking photos, crafting, getting together with friends, and enjoying sunsets. She loved to spend time in nature, especially with wildflowers, bluebonnets, and sunflowers. Each spring and summer, she made several trips to find the best fields of flowers. Galveston was a place of peace for her. She enjoyed spending time jumping in the waves and exploring small shops.
Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 1:00pm: Post 2 American Legion, 404 Valley Road, Barre, MA 01005.
