

Mary Marcia Alexander Spencer, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 1, 2010, after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. We rejoice in the blessing of her 74 years as she was a witness to God’s love throughout her life. Mary was born in Hull, Texas at her family home on December 18, 1935 to Rice and Alice Hull Alexander.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, David Noel Alexander and her husband, Drew Spencer. She is survived by her children, Kim Froehlich and husband Randy, Pam Tipton and Tom Tipton, Bobby Rogers and wife Faith; grandchildren Jennifer Froehlich Kelly and husband Dennis, Christina Froehlich Byrom and husband Clint, Matthew Froehlich and wife Terri, Kevin Froehlich, Kayce Tipton Bucks and husband Bill, Megan Tipton, Abbey Tipton, Kyle Rogers and Lindy Rogers; seven great-grandchildren, Jace Arthur, Jordan and Jake Bucks, Trevor and Taylor Kelly, and Rebecca and Sarah Byrom.
Mary was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Board of Directors for the Heritage Museum. She was an avid participant in the Ladies Bible Class of Grace Lutheran Church. She was a past member of the Conroe Rotary Club, the East Texas Tourism Association Board of Directors, the Grace Lutheran Church Council, and the East Texas Bluebonnet Council. Mary’s love for her home in Montgomery County and the local people was evident through her service as the Director of the Conroe/Lake Conroe Convention and Visitor’s Bureau for 20 years. She served on the first panel for Lobsterfest and was a founder of the Main Street Festival. Mary was an initial contributor to the introduction of the Cattle Baron’s Ball to Montgomery County. She was one of the few instrumental people responsible for establishing Montgomery County as the Birthplace of the Lone Star Flag. She also served on numerous boards and committees over her years in Conroe.
A celebration of her life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church on Wednesday, November 3 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Lorin Darst officiating. Interment will follow at Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery on FM 1314 next to Mims Baptist Church. The visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 2 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Metcalf Funeral Directors. You may leave a tribute to the family at www.metcalffuneraldirectors.com.
