

Randy Smith lost his battle for life on March 16, 2010 after a long illness. He was born in Houston, TX December 9, 1948. In 1954, his family moved to Conroe to take a coaching position at Conroe High School.
Randy always made friends quickly and was very active in the youth baseball organization. Then in high school was an avid player on the football and baseball teams. He graduated from Conroe High School in 1967. After a few years at college, he found his niche in the oil and gas industry, first working for Halliburton and then with Grant Corp. He lived ten years in Switzerland working for Grant where he was able to travel the world and expand his horizons. In 1988, he returned to Conroe and started several businesses over the last 20 years. He retired a few years ago due to his illness and enjoyed the remainder of his life with his beloved grandchildren, wife and girls.
He was proceeded in death by his parent “Coach” Lee and Erline Smith, sister, Tookie, brother, Dennis and son, Joel.
He is survived by his wife, Alana Smith and Daughters Kara Smith and Lee Johnston of Conroe, Nicole Alexander of Fort Worth, Betzy and Tommy VanTilborg of Colorado and Patrice Smith and Vincent Green of Conroe. Also, his grandchildren Alexis Johnston, Zethan and Allison Alexander and on its way due in September.
Services will be held at Metcalf Funeral home in Conroe. Viewing will be held Friday March 19, 2010 between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the chapel on Saturday March 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
