Sharon Lee Thurber Light, born on April 10, 1942, passed away late Sunday night at home with her family. Since March she had been recovering from a complicated triple-bypass surgery. She is survived by her sister Judith Bastian, her children Stacy Winchell and Mark Light, her grandchildren Shelby, Channing, Hannah and Chandler, her great granddaughters Ryin and Riyah, and countless others who loved her dearly.
Sharon, aka Sam, was a one-of-a-kind lady! A spitfire with a unique and spunky personality. She was a kind and generous person who spent her whole life giving of herself. Once she had tackled being a mom and successfully raised two kids on her own, she then raised her granddaughter as well. Her love and willingness to help someone in need never stopped; it was ingrained in who she was. She opened her home to anyone that needed a place to stay, human and animal alike.
Sharon volunteered countless hours of her time to causes that she held near and dear to her heart. Her compassionate nature made the world a better place. She especially loved visiting with her retired ladies and painting their nails, spending time in the animal shelters just to lend a hand; running around town or going on road trips with her friends, but most of all, being an active and dedicated great grandmother. She was an everyday part of her family's life and made our whole world a better place, just by being in it.
She was our rock, our biggest fan, our best friend. This world and our lives will never be the same without her. We are grateful for all of the amazing times we had together and feel lucky to have been loved so deeply by her. Sharon would want to be remembered for what she was, strong. She was one tough cookie. She never acted or looked her age as she got into her retirement years, and she was proud of that. She felt good and lived a very active life, right up until the very end. With barely a stitch of gray hair on her head and hardly a wrinkle on her skin, she was a beautiful woman, a wonderful person, and still too young and full of life to go. Even in death she teaches us all to cherish every moment of this life because nothing is promised, not even tomorrow. Be with the ones you love most and do the things that you’ve always dreamed.
The family will be holding a private gathering to celebrate Sharon's life. If you would like to give in Sharon's honor, please consider making a donation to Montgomery County Animal shelter. She was an animal lover and it would put a smile on her face to know that she could still be helping by having been the inspiration to us all. Please check back, we will be having a Celebration of Life party for her and will post an update.
