Shirley was born in Houston, Texas on April 25, 1939, and a 1957 graduate of John H. Reagan High School. Along with being a proud lifelong Bulldog and member of the Reagan Redcoats Dance Team, Shirley met her “High School Sweet-Heart,” “Love of Her Life,” and Future Husband of 56 years, Joseph Franklin Foster Jr. After graduation, Shirley attended The University of Texas in Austin where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. Shirley also attended the University of Houston upon her return to the Houston area.
The majority of Shirley’s professional career was spent in the Oil and Gas Industry working for Getty Oil and Mobile Oil, before retiring from Conoco Phillips as an Executive Assistant / Secretary.
Shirley was a life-long Houstonian, living in the Heights and Sharpstown communities, before relocating to Conroe, Texas in 1980. With shared time in New Baden, Texas on “Foster’s Farm,” Shirley would continue to call Conroe home until 2017.
Shirley had many talents and enjoyed painting, sewing, quilting and crocheting in her free time. As the mother of two boys, and the wife of an avid Sportsman, Shirley’s interest also included hunting and fishing, with many memories made on the deer-lease and fishing in Port O’ Conner, Texas!
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Marie Miller, formerly of Houston, Texas; Husband Joseph “Joe” Foster; Son Bradley Foster. Shirley is survived by her loving son Matthew Miller Foster and wife Stephanie of Cypress, Texas; grandchildren, Haden Bradley Foster, and Whitney Reece Foster; brother, Wallace Miller of College Station, Texas; Life-long Best Friend and “Sister” of over 70 years, Mrs. Robert “Bonnie” Smith of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas on Monday, January 8, 2024, at 10:00am. Graveside Service and Burial will follow in the Garden Park Cemetery.
