

Funeral services for Viola Ruth Crews, age 92, of Conroe will be held on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 3 p.m. in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Reverend Hiram “Doc” Jones officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Lubbock, Texas.
Viola was born September 28, 1918 in Dublin, Texas and passed away on April 22, 2011 in Shenandoah, Texas. She started the first Boy Scouts troop in Anton, Texas and was deeply involved in her boys’ sports and activities while they were growing up. Her family was named “Family of the Year” in 1951. Viola was very active in many of the ministries of the United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Garden Club, Study Club, an avid bridge player and an excellent artist. She owned her own dress shop and was also a buyer for Dillard’s Department Store.
Viola was married to her husband, Alvin Crews, for 51 years before he preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, Jan Crews and wife Beth of Willis and Larry Crews and wife Kathy of The Woodlands; grandchildren, Jennifer Taylor and husband Andy, Laura Bernshausen and husband Dean, Jason Crews, Cody Phillips and Clayton Phillips; great grandchildren, Emma Bernshausen, Madelyn Taylor and Orbie Taylor. Al Armijo and Gladys Hensleit were special friends who cared for Viola for over six years. Their care gave Viola many happy memories and added many good years to her life.
