He was born on May 14, 1961, in Roseville, California, to Norman and Patsy Ann Swanson.
Lovingly known as Billy, he had a gift for making everyone feel special—as if they were the most important person in the world. He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, cooking, entertaining, and spending time with his family, children, and friends. A devoted husband and father, Billy cherished every moment with his wife, Alma, and three children: Patricia, Nicole, and Little Bill.
Billy began his career at Directional Drilling Company in 1999, where he worked until 2010. During his time there, he served as vice president, and he made many close friends that he considered family. He then joined Chief Oil & Gas in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where he dedicated 15 years before retiring. During his time there, he was a drilling superintendent, and he formed many close friendships that meant a great deal to him. He also ran his own company, Real Drill Consulting, where he shared his knowledge and expertise with others in the oil and gas industry.
Billy loved to cook homemade meals from scratch, a skill passed down from his mother. His daughters especially loved his pancakes, which became a family favorite. He found joy in bringing people together, whether gathering friends at his home or enjoying time at the beach. He also loved to travel, but his trips always had to include these important things: a body of water, good friends, a drink, and maybe even a casino. He also had a special place in his heart for his dogs, Coco and Luna.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Alma Swanson, and their children: Patricia Dawn Swanson, Nicole Grace Swanson, and William Adam “Little Bill” Swanson. He is also survived by his siblings, Randy Willard and wife Rhonda; Christina Stout; and Dawn Hamilton and husband Duane, as well as many nieces and nephews whom he loved. Billy shared a lifelong, 52-year friendship with his best friend, Richard Stiers, who was like family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Patsy Ann Swanson, and his dear friends, Lawrence “Bubba” Fluitt and Dustin “Dusty” Berryman.
Billy’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all of their closest friends and family who have visited and expressed their condolences during this difficult time. Their years of love, friendship, and commitment have been a source of great strength and comfort to Billy’s family.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe.
