Hisako Haskins passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 after battling cancer. She approached her last moments as she lived her life: with unfading tenacity. Mother of three, grandmother of six, and great grandmother of twelve, she took her last breaths surrounded by the love of her family.
Hisako was born on April 5, 1934, in Tokyo, Japan, and moved to California in 1968, where she worked for The North Face corporation for over 20 years. She was mother to Will, Alene, and Vida – her loving children who were her life’s greatest treasure and accomplishment. Hisako was cherished by her family, friends, and community wherever she spent her life – from El Cerrito, California to Coral Springs, Florida.
She was known lovingly as “Obachan” by her grandchildren: Kendale, Kiyono, Phillip, Gabrielle, Danielle, and David. Hisako was unwaveringly committed to her family, often there at the births of her grandchildren and present in the memorable moments in between. From family get-togethers, to football and basketball games, to holiday dinners and graduations, she made sure to be there for the people she loved.
Hisako will always be remembered and loved by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and family. She will forever remain in our hearts as the woman who loved boldly and gave life to so many and so much around her.
