On Monday, March 13th, 2023, Janice Clark of Parkland Florida, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at the age of 81. Jan was born in Pasadena California to Virgina and William Hays. She grew up in San Marino California and loved spending time at the family beach house in Del Mar with friends and relatives. She graduated from San Marino High School in 1959.
Jan joined Kappa Alpha Theta at the University of Southern California where she graduated in 1963 with her bachelor's degree in education. She went on to teach in Los Angeles City Schools. In 1964 she married her beloved Navy sweetheart Lt James Clark and they moved to Northern California. She continued teaching in the San Leandro school district grades 3-5 at James Monroe Elementary. In 1968 baby Patrick arrived, at which time she resigned from teaching. They raised their children Patrick and Pamela beginning in Walnut Creek CA and then moving cross country to Lloyd Harbor New York, later Mendham New Jersey, and for the last 12 years Parkland Florida to be near Pam and her grandchildren.
Jan loved to play tennis with her friends, she was competitive. She would watch any sport on TV and kept up with all the local teams as well as her alma mater USC and rivals. She loved helping people and would volunteer at the hospital and other charitable organizations. She served on the Board of Directors at Children's Medical Center Oakland CA, Huntington Hospital NY, and Health Services at Home NY. A wonderful cook and gracious host who made every occasion special with a warm and welcoming home. Jan loved animals. When the family moved from California to New York they flew with 2 cats, 6 kittens, and a parakeet on the plane! Later she somehow managed to get Jim to approve of a Doberman - Roxy and later Cayenne. She was known as a sweet, very smart, and thoughtful friend with a beautiful smile who loved with her whole heart.
Jan is survived by her adoring husband Jim, their children Pamela Clark (Lisewski), Patrick Clark, son-in-law Joe Lisewski and Grandchildren Joey, Johnny, and Jimmy, her sister-in-law Marge Norick, niece Kim Spruth and nephew Kevin Norick. Sadly, her nephew Alan Hays passed recently. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Bill Hays, brother-in-law Ron Norick, and nephew Alan Hays.
She will be laid to rest at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth on a date to be determined, the family will have a small gathering in her honor. In lieu of flowers consider a donation to the American Lung Cancer Association or the Humane Society of Broward County.
