Blaine met Barbara Bingham at Collin’s Music Store in downtown Huntington, Indiana. They were married March 17, 1968, and recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary with their full family.
He earned his PhD in Comparative Arts from Ohio University in 1975. He taught at Huntington North High School, Huntington College, Florida Institute of Technology at Jensen Beach, FL, Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury, CT, and Lynn University (formerly College of Boca Raton).
In 1977 he wrote "My career goal is to contribute to the enjoyment of beauty through the arts". Throughout his 40 years as a full-time educator, he rose to the highest levels in his field as a tenured university professor, chairman, and dean of his departments. Though his passion was as a hands-on instructor of comparative arts, English, fine arts and humanities.
A lifelong learner, Blaine pursued multiple disciplines: an accomplished pianist and organist, playing professionally in Chicago, a prolific writer of articles, novels and poetry. Blaine also dabbled in audio & video production, computer programming (including creator of personal finance software), and real estate . For recreation, Blaine enjoyed model railroading and extensive travel throughout the 49 contiguous states, Canada, and Europe.
A loving husband and father, he was always available and could be trusted to offer sage advice. He was a valued teammate at Trivial Pursuit, but had a weakness for honey buns.
