Robert Evans ("Tad") Harrington died on Memorial Day, May 27, 2019, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born in Evanston, Illinois to O. D. and Ellwyn Harrington, and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Kansas in 1968. Tad was an admired teacher of English literature for nearly three decades at Pine Crest School in Ft. Lauderdale and served as Producer and Director of annual musicals for twenty of those years. Many of his former students remember annual trips to New York to see Broadway musicals and credit him for encouraging their dreams of performing and participating in the entertainment industry.
Tad instilled in his students a love for the great classics of literature. He was known for his sense of humor, his loyalty to family, friends and KU, and for his love of dogs and sports cars. He is survived by his brother, Thomas Harrington; his sister, Nancy Harrington Woody and her husband, Robert Woody, by nieces and nephews Kristin, John, Karen and James Woody and their spouses and nine great-nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Tad's life will be held on June 13, 2019, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Coral Ridge Country Club in Ft. Lauderdale. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent in Tad's memory to the Parkinson's Foundation (Parkinson.org) or Westie Rescue USA (westierescue.com).
