

Troy, Thelma passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 24, 2019 of natural causes. Thelma Troy was the lone survivor of her 7 brothers and sisters. She was born to her nurturing parents Eddie and Sarah Troy. Thelma Troy was 96 years old and enjoyed a wonderful life living in New York City. She returned to her home town of Miami at her mother's request. Thelma Troy was a licensed beautician for many years. Until she got involved in her community as a social worker. Thelma wanted to improve her community and embraced J.E.S.C.A., James E. Scott Community Program. She worked diligently to help improve inner city family life and housing. Thelma became an educator after graduating from Florida Memorial University. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. Thelma strived for educational excellence. She stood on a platform of Higher Education. She encouraged all youth to pursue college aspirations and focus on career paths to secure future dreams. Thelma retired from teaching after 20 years of devoted service. She was a faithful member of the Historic Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She served her congregation outstandingly as a Sunday School Teacher, Ministry of Music and Deaconess. She was an accomplished, self taught Pianist. Thelma Troy was also a lady of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated. She found another vehicle to serve her community and granddaughters. She embraced another role, Girl Scout Leader. She lead her inner city Girl Scout Troop to two major performances in Opera Daisy.
Thelma Troy was a lady of distinction and a pillar in her community. As a mother and grandmother she wore many hats. She was loved by many, admired for her talents and respected for her various charitable donations. She will be deeply missed by her family and community but not forgotten.
As Thelma Troy enters heaven's gates she leaves two loving daughters, Paula Anderson Brown and Andrea (Sam) Troup, four granddaughters, Valerie Clark, Valinda Hayes, Vicki (Jeff) Faulkner, Vanice Rolle, four grandsons, Arnold (Teresa) Covington, Lamont Carey, Victor Howard and Vernon (Latavia) Carey. Nineteen great grand children and two great-great grand daughters.
