HUGHES, Claire Rosanna (née Contant) – passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at the Cornwall Community Hospital at the age of 88 years. Claire was married to the late Gerald Arthur Hughes for 61 years. Loving mother of six children; Kim (Geoff), Cindy (Kyle), Lynn, Shelley (Cathy), Jennifer (Glenn) and Jeffrey. Cherished grandmother of Rachelle, Melanie, Sophie, Joseph, Madeleine, Olivia, Adam and Claire. Proud great- grandmother of Sebastian, Adelina and Teddy. Survived by her brother Raymond Contant (Muriel) and by her in- laws, Carole Hughes (Pat), Phyllis Jodoin (late Curtis)and Joyce Charbonneau (Claude). Predeceased by her parents, Josephat and Régina (née Goulet) Contant. Claire was a life long resident of Cornwall, having worked at the St-Lawrence Seaway Authority for 26 years. Mom lived for her family. She would count on her fingers every night before bed to ensure that she had talked to each and every one of her 6 children. She was very social and loved to entertain family and friends. If she wasn’t out shopping, you could find her baking, knitting, reading, doing puzzles or playing cards. A great part of Mom & Dad’s life was spent at their cottage on the St-Lawrence River. Upon retirement, they spent many fun filled years as Snowbirds in Largo,FL. Mom was the best perch “filleter” ever, and was one muffin away from opening her own bakery! On Sunday, Mom was reunited with the love of her life, one day prior to the 5th anniversary of Dad’s passing. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of the Cornwall Community Hospital for their compassionate care. Arrangements are under the care and direction of LAHAIE AND SULLIVAN CORNWALL FUNERAL HOME, EAST BRANCH, 614 First Street East, (613-933-2841). In accordance with Claire’s wishes, there will be no funeral or visitation. An Urn Committal will take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, in Memory Donations to the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation, www.cornwallhospitalfoundation.ca would be appreciated by the family.
