ROOSENBOOM, Eileen Ellen - On a beautiful, warm sunny afternoon, Eileen Ellen Roosenboom (nee Nuttley) peacefully left us to join her soulmate, Derk. Eileen enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and loved to bowl, read, sing, and solve crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She loved to laugh, share her opinions, and have rousing debates about world events. Eileen was known to give people a good gweeking when they least expected it. On Saturday mornings, Eileen loved to read about people’s life stories in the obituaries.
She enjoyed raising her family and her family cherished her as a stay-at-home Mom. Later in life, Eileen completed her GED and was rightfully quite proud of her life accomplishments. She proceeded to work at TR Leger as a teacher’s assistant. She loved teaching English as a second language to new Canadians. She would fondly recall stories of accompanying students to the grocery store and sharing in their amazement at the plethora of food available to purchase.
Eileen and Derk shared a quiet, peaceful retirement and loved family gatherings. Her partner in life left her too soon and she bared that loss until the end of her days. She carried Derk’s spirit and love wherever she was, with whomever she would speak with and within her thoughts.
Eileen struggled with her health in recent years and rarely complained. She was equally strong and stubborn and these traits allowed her to stay with us longer than she medically should have. Eileen always worried about being a burden to those she loved, but little did she realize that it was our pleasure to have her with us.
Eileen was the cherished mother of David (Carolyn) Roosenboom, Jolene (Wayne) Moore, Leanne (Dwayne) Gadbois, proud grandmother of Grant, Thomas, Allan, and Raquel. Dear sister of Joan Marie Emeny (late Ed), Yvonne (John) Levely, and Neil Nuttley. Beloved friend of her sister, Joan Marie Emeny, Millie Moss, and her cousin, Janet Swim. Predeceased by her parents, Gladys Nuttley and Harry Nuttley, and her brother, Floyd Nuttley. Eileen was an aunt and great aunt to generations of nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her many in-laws.
Special thank you to the Cornwall Community Paramedics, Dr. Ghantous and Sandra, his receptionist, Annyssa, her PSW from CHP, the staff at Seaway Valley Community Health Centre (Lung Clinic), and the staff at Cornwall Community Hospital. Without all your wonderful support, she would not have been able to live and enjoy her years at home.
Eileen is under the care and direction of Lahaie and Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes, East Branch, 614 First St. E., 613-933-2841. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cornwall Public Library, 39328 | CharityProfile | Donate Online or mail to 45 Second St. E., P.O.
