Born November 2, 1943, in Edmonton to Walter and Rhoda Hagstrom, Betty grew up on a farm near Wetaskiwin, Alberta. She attended Berean Bible College in Calgary, where she met Gordon Wickens. They married on November 2, 1963, raised four children, and shared more than 56 years together before Gordon’s death on December 31, 2019.
Betty worked alongside Gordon in Christian schools, serving as a secretary and offering encouragement and care to many students.
A gifted seamstress and tailor, Betty made clothing, wedding dresses, and treasured gifts for her family, and taught sewing for many years. She loved singing with Gordon, cooking, gardening, and especially spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her joyful laugh, positive spirit, and steadfast faith in God will be remembered by all who knew her.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Gordon, and her parents, Walter and Rhoda Hagstrom. She is survived by her children, LeeAnne (Wayne) Sissons, Trever (Tanya) Wickens, Kent (Caroline) Wickens, and Todd (Jackie) Wickens; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way; her siblings, Donna (Arne) Carlson and Norman (Carol) Hagstrom; her in-laws, Murray (Judi) Hodges and Earl (Virginia) Wickens; and many extended family members and friends.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held in honour of Betty Lynn at 2:00 on October 3, 2026 at Campbell River Baptist Church in Campbell River. Family and Friends are welcome to join us in remembering a great Woman of God with food and fellowship being served afterwards.
