Cory Mitchell Fisher

Having lived an extraordinary life of 36 years, Cory Mitchell Fisher joined his Grandpa and Papa in heaven on Saturday June 13, 2026 after an unexpected medical complication at the Comox Valley Hospital with his mom by his side.

Born July 30, 1989 in Victoria and moving to the Comox Valley at age 10, Cory’s legacies have traveled the world thru’ the many lives he touched with his wisdom, humour, patience and unwavering spirit of perseverance. From the beginning Cory pushed beyond the boundaries of the known, demonstrating courage in everyday life embodying his mantra “There is more than one way to do everything”.

Known for his generous heart and unforgettable smile, he had a rare gift of building community wherever he went. Like traits of his favourite color blue, he approached life with bravery, imagination and enthusiasm. A master of computerized communication, Cory taught us that the world moves fast and to slow down and take the time to really listen to each other.

His eclectic taste in music provided the soundtrack for many unique adventures with the best of the best he gathered around him. The unbreakable spirit that characterized his life translated into his love of learning, sports, theatre, animals and nature. His love of sports especially brought people together and every game of every sport played or cheered was another place he found joy and connection.

To embrace life he commanded changes in all of us becoming a friend, mentor, confidant, teacher and advocate - demonstrating that everyone belongs. Reading to young children, presenting to post-secondary students and policy makers, talking to llamas or comforting kittens, Cory showed us how to be more patient, compassionate and understanding. A founding presence in the evolution of inclusive childcare, education and communication supports and independence, he shaped our world to be a better place.

Cory is lovingly remembered by his parents, Laurie Tulloch (Mike Fitzgerald) and Darrell Fisher (Sharon), grandmothers, Grandma Elaine Tulloch and Nana Shirley Walker, siblings and their families Livia Supplie (Marc Sylvestre), Nicole Fitzgerald (Tyler Bruce), Raleigh Fisher, Lauren Askew-Larson (Garry) and many extended family and friends. Cory held a special place in his heart for his Uncle Norm and cared greatly for his first cousins Nick and Rob Espenberg and Katie and Doug Getty.

Cory’s heart extended far beyond his family to his support team, past and present (Jose, Christian, Justin, Meagan, Maisie, Oliver, Sheena and Isaiah) and their families whose loving care and dedication allowed him to pursue his dreams.

Cory is predeceased by his Grandpa Robert Fisher (July 27, 1995), Grandpa Bill Tulloch (March 8, 2008), and Papa Jim Walker (June 18, 2023).

A Celebration of Cory’s life was held on Sunday June 28th out in nature where the authenticity Cory inspired in all of us lived in the stories and memories shared by friends and family. His remarkable life will forever be an inspiration and a testament to the power of inclusion and belonging, ensuring his legacy lives on.

Cory’s favorite organizations to donate or volunteer include Project Inclusion – Comox Valley Child Development Association; Kitty Cat Pals – North Island Humane Society; and the Gizeh Shriners of BC. A fund will also be set up with the North Island College Foundation in support of another changemaker in the world like Cory.
