It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Lisa Louise Doherty, born in Surrey, British Columbia, on May 1, 1967. Lisa passed away on August 18, 2026, leaving behind a family and countless friends who are trying to figure out how the world is supposed to carry on without her.
Lisa was a force of nature. She had a personality that could never be contained in a room, and she had a remarkable ability to turn absolutely anything into an event. She did not believe in doing things half-assed. If she was going to do something, she was going to do it properly and probably make it bigger than necessary.
She loved her family and friends fiercely, and had a habit of spoiling the people she cared about. Her generosity knew very few limits, and neither did her ability to feed people. Lisa could somehow prepare enough food for an army, make it look effortless, and wonder why anyone wasn’t taking seconds. You were always forced to take some food home with you.
She loved animals and had a special way with them. Animals seemed to know immediately that Lisa was one of the good ones.
Lisa was also the one people went to when they needed advice. She happily took on the role of everyone’s personal Dr. Phil, whether they had asked for counselling or not. She always had something to say, usually something worth hearing, and she was never particularly interested in sugar-coating it.
Those who knew Lisa will also remember her wonderful colourful vocabulary. She had a particular appreciation for the word “cunt” or her PG version “awh muffin”, and a favourite way of telling someone to get going was “On your bike!” Those phrases became undeniably Lisa.
But beneath all the humour, opinions, big meals and even bigger personality was a woman who loved extraordinarily hard. She gave so much of herself to the people around her, and made sure the people she loved knew it.
She wasn’t a regular mom. She was a cool mom. She was a best friend, a confidante, a source of advice, and the person who could make almost anything feel better. Her absence is impossible to put into words. She poured all her energy in taking care of all of her kids, not just her own.
Lisa leaves behind memories that will be told and retold for years to come. The ridiculous stories, the unsolicited advice, the meals that could feed a village, the laughter, and all the little moments that made her who she was.
We take comfort in knowing that Lisa is now reunited with her mom and dad, as well as the friends and loved ones she lost along the way. Knowing Lisa, she has probably already found them, caught everyone up on what they’ve been missing, and has taken over.
Lisa was unforgettable. She was hilarious, generous, stubborn, loving, and always completely herself.
A Family Graveside Service will be held at Cumberland Cemetery, 4430 Memorial Way (previously Minto Rd), Cumberland, British Columbia, on September 1, 2026, at 11:00 am.
