Margaret Suzanne Davis, known to many as Suzanne or Annie, lived a remarkable life. She passed quietly in the wee hours of September 09, 2026, and it was just like Suzanne to not want doctors or hospitals, nor anyone to be sad. She was funny, and she loved hard. Suzanne was predeceased by her parents Martha and Kenneth Davis. She leaves behind her sister Marty Davis of Abbotsford, BC and her brother Jim Davis of Headquarters Road, in addition to a large extended family. An example of how she loved big, was evident daily when you could hear her talk about the place she called home. Doug and Sunday Cousens gave Suzanne the opportunity to live at home until her final months and continued to be her family, surrounding her with love after she had moved to Cumberland Lodge this spring.
Suzanne lived a life filled with art, friendship, laughter, and, of course, a sweet treat or two. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone around her feel loved, welcomed, and as though they truly belonged. Although her life was marked by health challenges and obstacles, Suzanne never allowed those challenges to define who she was. Her sunny spirit, quick wit, and wonderfully sarcastic teasing were always close at hand. She loved watching Heartland and other shows that captured the simple beauty and rhythm of life on the farm, and she treasured the many friendships she made throughout her decades of days spent at Beaufort Day Program.
Suzanne defied the odds more than once, but she also knew her own strength. She was determined to make her own choices and advocate for herself, ensuring that she had the care, opportunities, and options that were right for her. She showed us that a disability may be part of someone’s life, but it is never the whole of who they are. Helen Keller stated that the best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt by the heart. Suzanne’s greatest gift was her ability to make people feel loved. She gave that gift freely and generously, leaving a little piece of herself with everyone who knew her.
Her art, lovingly created and gifted to friends and those she cared about, will now become treasured reminders of her—small, beautiful pieces of Suzanne that will continue to bring colour and warmth into the lives of others. She will be deeply missed, but her laughter, her teasing, her friendship, and the love she gave so generously will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Suzanne made people feel valued, and that is a beautiful legacy to leave behind.
As friends and family of Suzanne we want to thank the following, Alice, Diane and her family for years of respite, and welcoming Suzanne into their home, the staff at Cumberland Lodge, Dr. Johnson, HSCL and nurse Val that worked tirelessly to advocate for Suzanne, Todd and Kelsey at CLBC, Michelle and Sheri and their families, Colleen at Kardel, and all of her friends at Beaufort Association.
We were all gifted to be her “peeps” and we will all miss her more than words can say.
