Marjorie Ruth McIntyre

After a life lived with love, intelligence, and gratitude Marjorie transitioned from this world, at home, on Thursday August 13, 2026. She was held in the love of Carol, her partner of 26 years, her sons Jeff and Brent Clark, daughter-in-law Astrid Weiss, grandchildren Hayley, Dillon, Ashley, and Cameron, her sisters Yvonne Oliver and Verna Kershaw and her brother-in-law Al McDonald.

Marjorie was born in Windsor, Ontario on September 24, 1943 and spent her early years in Essex before the family moved to Yellowknife, NWT where she formed indelible memories of the northern landscape, the darkness of winter months, and the long hours of summer sun nourishing the family’s market garden and green houses. Marjorie left the north to begin her nursing education at the Royal Alexander hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. Following a decade of professional nursing practice, her commitment to nursing became a passion for nursing education. Following her continued education at the University of Victoria (BSN), UBC (MN), and The University of Colorado at Denver (PhD), Marjorie taught and mentored generations of nurses at Malaspina College, Camosun College, the University of Calgary, and the University of Victoria.

Throughout adulthood, through study and practice, Marjorie explored her life as a spiritual being. She was inspired to maintain a daily meditation practice, to sit in silence and to know the immediacy and wonder of the natural world. She loved to camp from the shores of the river near Yellowknife with her sisters and brother, to her first tent when Jeff and Brent were children, to family camping trips with the grandkids and a series of camper vans shared with Carol and their much-loved dogs, Haiku, Darby, and Isla.

Marjorie will be remembered with laughter and esteem by her long-time friends and colleagues in Victoria with whom she read and discussed countless books, as well as by the River Glen knitting circle and book group friends of Courtenay, with special love for our friend Jeannie Martin. She was predeceased by her mother Gladys (1959), father Authur Elton (1988), brother Jim Oliver (2024), and Jeff and Brent’s father Jerry Clark (2025). In addition to immediate family, Marjorie is survived by her dear friend Janice Kinch, previous partner Murray McIntyre, and numerous nieces and nephews.
