It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joanne Campbell (nee Baikie), a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished friend. Joanne passed away peacefully on September 24 at the age of 88, with three generations of her family by her side.
Joanne was born and raised in Comox. Her parents, Wallace and Myra Baikie (nee Thompson), were early settlers in the Comox Valley. After graduating from Courtenay High School, Joanne attended the University of British Columbia, where she met the love of her life, Dave Campbell. They married in 1960 and embarked on a beautiful life together. Dave's career took them throughout British Columbia, where they raised their family and brought warmth and energy to every community they called home. Over the years, they lived in Powell River, Williams Lake, Prince Rupert, Kelowna and Victoria before coming full circle and returning to Joanne's beloved hometown of Comox.
With her quiet but determined nature, Joanne was a strong and loving matriarch whose comforting presence was at the heart of her family. Active, fun-loving and always stylish, she had a wonderful sense of humour and a gift for making those around her feel welcome and at ease.
Joanne was an active member of her community and a generous supporter of many local causes. She had a vibrant love of the arts, was an avid traveller and famously completed the Great Tahsis Walk - a testament to her adventurous spirit and lifelong vitality.
Some of Joanne's happiest times were spent with her family at their cabin on Upper Campbell Lake, catching trout and always being the first into the water in the morning. She was deeply loved by all who knew her and leaves a lasting legacy of strength, kindness, laughter and love.
Joanne was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dave Campbell, and her first-born son, Geoffrey Campbell. She leaves behind a large and devoted family who will miss her dearly: her daughter, Lea (Yves) Brochu; her son, Rod (Cheri) Campbell; her daughter-in-law, Lori Campbell; her grandchildren, Nicholas (Christine), Amy (Brad), Jillian (Mark), Christopher (Karianne), Emilie (Andrew), Alyssa (Kevin), Kenza and Malcolm; and her great-grandchildren, Eloise, Harrison, Georgia, Liev, Margot and Griffin.
A service will be held on Saturday, October 10, at 1:00pm at Piercy's- Mt. Washington Funeral Home in Courtenay, British Columbia, 440 England Ave. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
