It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Rainer Kraft on June 28th, 2026. Our Rainer, or Ray/Dad/Opi who was born May 13th, 1941 in Hamburg Germany, has now moved along to the next chapter of his journey, dying peacefully and surrounded by loved ones. Survived by his wife, Margaret, daughter Ann Marie, sons Troy (and Tanya) and Lorne (and Kylie), and his beloved grandchildren Ella, Wil, Toby and Cypress, brothers Gunther (and Marianne) and Tom, he will be remembered fondly and never forgotten.
Immigrating to Hamilton as a teenager, Ray started his apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker and soon became a skilled tradesman. He met Margaret, married, built his own house in Dundas, Ont. and started a family. Wanting more, they took the brave step of moving across the country to Vancouver, the city Ray fell in love with on his cross-continent adventures as a young man. It was in Horseshoe Bay, where they raised their kids - Ann Marie, Troy, and Lorne. Ray’s devotion and commitment as a family man, role model and union worker was unwavering, and unmatched. He was a loving and devoted father who raised his kids the right way, all the while with a love of soccer, appreciation for nature and an adventurous and playful spirit.
In Ray and Marg’s golden years, they moved to Union Bay to enjoy the slower pace and be oceanside. It was here that Ray made another impact, with his volunteer work with the Fanny Bay Hatchery and his stewardship of Hart Creek.
We will be acknowledging and appreciating Ray on Saturday, July 11th at the Union Bay Community Hall from 12:00 - 2:00.
