

Alan was born on June 9, 1946, in Hammond, IN, to the late Rannie and Millie Anderson. Alan was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
Alan is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Judy (Canaday) Anderson; three loving daughters, Kimberly (William) Nondorf, Kerianne (Kevin) Symons, and Kristina (Robert) Thaxton, all of Portage; and his cherished grandchildren, Aubrey Frye-Anderson, Nicholas Alan (Rhyan) Nondorf, Natalie Nondorf, Alexis Thaxton, Claira Thaxton, Peyton Thaxton, and Michael Thaxton, all of Portage. Alan also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Daisey Kay Ford and Brady Alan Nondorf; his sister, Marcia (Steve) Bellovary of California; sister-in-law, Carol Anderson; along with brothers-in-law, Wayne (Jeannie) Canaday of Missouri, Richard Potchen of Hobart; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He is also survived by his beloved fur baby, Dylan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rannie and Millie Anderson; his infant sister, Cynthia Rae Anderson; his brother, Carl Anderson; and his in-laws, Henry and Ruth Canaday; as well as his sister-in-law, Donna Potchen; and brother-in-law, Gary Canaday.
Alan was a graduate of Calumet High School class of 1964. He was a proud member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Portage and a U.S. Army veteran. He worked for many years as a dedicated Local 73 Sheet Metal Worker, from which he retired. Alan was a passionate fan of the Indy 500, IU basketball (especially during the Bobby Knight years), Raiders football, and Bob Dylan and oldies music. He had a lifelong love of cars and was known for being a master on the grill. Always with a sweet tooth, he enjoyed anything chocolate. Above all, Alan’s greatest love was for his family, whom he cherished beyond measure.
He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, warmth, and devotion to his family will live on forever.
A memorial visitation for Alan will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM.
