

Carol was born in Hammond, IN to John and Dorothy (nee Gragido) Chmielewski on June 30, 1939. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Robin Dene Roark; and sister, Karen (nee Chmielewski) Shanahan.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, James R. Roark; son, David (Melissa) Roark; five grandchildren, Carina Brown, Tara (Danieal) Michalek, Aston (Sara) Roark, Chad (Jamie) Roark, and McKayla Roark; two great-grandchildren, Henry and Margo Roark; many nieces and nephews; along with many beloved friends.
She was the children's librarian at the Black Oak Branch of the Lake County Public Library system for 28 years. She retired on September 11, 2001. She also was a den mother for Black Oak Pack 99 Cub Scouts. She received her Scouter's Key in 1997. She graduated from Calumet High School Class of '57 and received a degree from Indiana University in Library Science. She and her husband are members of the First Christian Church of Crown Point, and she loved cooking, crafts, gardening, and her family and friends.
A visitation for Carol will be held Sunday, June 8, 2025 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. A funeral service will occur Monday, June 9, 2025 from 11:00 to 11:45 AM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home.
