Delores Marie Akins

On April 29, 1950, Delores was united in holy matrimony to Edward Akins. Mrs. and Mr. Akins then moved up North. To their union, eight children were born.

Delores was employed at the Bud Plant and never retired, and she was an outstanding homemaker and mothe,r to not just her own children, but to others as well. She was a member of St. Andrews A.M.E Zion Church and served as Deaconess until ill health.

She departed this life on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 5:35 p.m. at Methodist Hospital Northlake.

She leaves to mourn her transition: six sons, Gregory Lamont (Cory, Brian, Daron, Calvin), Terry Lee Sr. (Terry Lee Jr.), Edward Jr. (Rachel, Rochell, Makeena, Janae), Jerry Lynn, Ronald Theodore [Michelle (Shaun, Michael, Cherry, Cory)], John Fitzgerald [Josie (John, Andre, Latrivia, Kashina, Frankie)]; two daughters, Edwina Marie (Chantay), and Robin Francine (Gregory, Tiffani, Ashlee, Austin, Ami); twenty-four grandchildren which are listed above; eighty-four great grands; one brother, Louis; two sisters, Joyce, Margarette Jean and a host of other relatives and loving friends.

Visitation will be Friday, April 7, 2017 from 10:00 am until the time of her funeral at 11:00 am at St. Andrews A.M.E. Zion Church (749 Chase Street; Gary, Indiana). Burial will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with Chapel Lawn Funeral Home.
