In 1957, Donald moved to Northwest Indiana to find work and met his love, Loretta. They were married on June 9, 1962. He was a proud Army Veteran, who served prior to starting their family. Together they raised three daughters. Don loved to garden and grew various vegetables on their land. Friends and family were gracious recipients of his many bounties.
He was a hard worker at LTV Steel, working many extra shifts to provide all the "extras" for his family. He retired in 1997 to spend time with his family and spoil the grandchildren. He and Loretta had many wonderful vacations. Donald was a deacon and had a true servant's heart. His unconditional love, work ethic, kindness and honesty will live on as character traits with his family. A true gem was lost with his passing, and he will forever be missed.
Donald leaves behind his devoted wife of 60 years, Loretta Patterson; three daughters, LaDonna (Jay) Barnes, Elizabeth (Jerry) Edwards, Deidra (Greg) Begley; 12 grandchildren: Jonathon (Allie) Barnes, Cory Barnes, Brian Barnes, Kristin Barnes, Kevin Cook, Ian Edwards, Eli Edwards, Justin (Jessica) Kleine, Faith (Grifin) Schwark, Kylie Begley, Keegan Begley, Levi Begley; three great-grandchildren: Hunter, Logan, and Damon; three sisters, Juanita (late JB) Potter, Faye (James) Russell, Flonnie (Mike) Sims; brother, David Patterson; sister-in-law, Peggy Patterson, along with many nieces and nephews.
He is welcomed into paradise by his parents, Early and Etta Patterson, brother, Daniel Patterson, and granddaughter, Abigail Angel Begley.
A public visitation for Donald will be held Thursday, November 10, 2022, from 10AM to 1PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, Indiana 46307. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM with Pastor Caleb Hon officiating. Burial to follow with a Military Honors tribute at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
