

Jack James Burian, born June 30, 1936, passed away March 2, 2020 after a brief illness. Born in Milwaukee, WI, his family moved to Hammond when he was young. Jack graduated from George Rogers Clark High School in 1954. He joined the US Army in 1959 and served with the Honor Guard of the 6 th Army stationed at The Presidio of San Francisco until 1962.
He has been happily married to Lois (nee Synko) for 55 years and is survived by their sons, Gregg (Julie) and Douglas (Amy); grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) Kearney, Scott (Heather), Jack and Gus Burian; great grandchildren, Noah and Connor Kearney and sister, Joyce Szumlas. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Laddie and Jean Burian.
Jack was a loyal employee of Dixie Dairy (Teamsters Local 142) for over 40 years, retiring in 1999. Jack enjoyed traveling with Lois, bowling, grilling, yearly fishing trips to Crystal Falls, Michigan and Peavy Pond to go to "the spot", and tending to his yard. He was able to fix anything and shared that knowledge with his boys. Jack’s greatest joy came from being “Papa.” He dedicated much of his energy and time, especially in retirement, to his grandchildren. Papa had a kind , giving and gentle spirit, he never had a harsh word and loved to cook for his kids and grandkids.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020 from 1:00-4:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home located at 8178 Cline Ave, Crown Point, IN.
