James William Gilman, age 83, of Schererville passed away Monday, November 22, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eileen (nee Corman); five children: Lonnie (Dan) Ondo of Hobart, Jesse Gilman of Schererville, Colleen (late George) Novath of Valparaiso, Dawn (Harold) Vanderwal of Henderson, Nevada and Scott (fiancee Yolanda) Gilman of Schererville; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, David (Carol) Gilman of Kankakee, IL; one sister, Joann (Ronnie) Mutka of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Gilman was preceded in death by his parents: Bill and Irene Gilman; and daughter, Nancy Jo Casper.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Moxey officiating. Cremation to follow service. Friends are invited to meet with the family from 3:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave., (one-half mile south of US 30) Schererville, IN.
Mr. Gilman retired from George W. Corman Plumbing & Heating of East Chicago and Whiting, IN and was a member of Plumber's Union Local #210 of Merrillville, IN. He was a veteran of U.S. Navy during WWII and was an avid Bear's fan.
