Jim P. Janda Sr.

Jim P. Janda Sr., age 80, of Dyer, Indiana, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2015 at his residence with his loving family at his side. Jim was born July 14, 1935 in Gary, Indiana to the late Pete and Betty (Kostka) Janda. Also preceding him in death are his brothers Tony and Pete Janda. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Louise (Boilek) Janda; children: Jim (Sandy) Janda Jr., Kevin (Terri) Janda Sr., Kathy (Al Sr.) Reichelt, and Bob (Melissa) Janda Sr.; grandchildren: Albert Jr. (Rachel), Kevin Jr., Tanya (Jake Sr.), Courtney (Nick), Brian, Jimmy III (Megan), Alex (Kristen), Shannan, Amanda, Robby Jr., and Abbie; great grandchildren: Damion, Hailey, Jacob Jr., Blake, Jimmy IV, Emily, William, Ava, Ajay, Noah, Rebecca, Drew, and Jayla; siblings: George (Diana) Janda, Jerry (late Judy) Janda, and Betty Coleman; sister-in-law, Mary Janda; and many other brother and sister-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Janda retired from Inland Steel after 33 years of faithful service. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corp, being stationed in Korea. He was a member of the Cedar Lake American Legion and VFW. Jim was an avid gardener. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and taught his family through example. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 3:00- 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 S. Cline Ave.; Schererville, Indiana 46375). Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Doug Klukken officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
