

He was an Army Veteran. John dedicated 30+ years to the Steel Mill and 10+ years to the City of Hammond. He enjoyed playing on his IPad to pass the time away. John was a chauffeur to many. He was active in coaching baseball and softball for his children. John loved goofing around and causing trouble with his grandkids. He loved spending time with his family and friends. John was always willing to help out anyone in need, even strangers.
John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carol Poe; his children, Tina (Bill) Gray, John (Melissa) Poe, and Chris (Marissa) Poe; his grandchildren, Bryen Houchin, Drew Gray, Hailee Poe, and Ethan Poe; and many siblings, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John R. Poe and Lona Poe; his brother, Gary Poe; and his nephew, Brian Lackhouse.
A visitation for John will take place on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, followed immediately by a funeral service at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307.
