Joyce A. James Powers

Joyce was born December 27, 1939, in Randolph County, Indiana to the late Everett and Nelda (Stroup) James.

On August 29, 1968 she married Barry Powers, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death are her sister, Jane Retter and her brother, Roger James.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Shawn Powers; daughter, Linda (Ryan) Collier; grandchildren, Elena and Ben Collier; siblings, Wayne (Maxine) James, Larry (Donna) James, Sandy Miller, and Gary (Sharon) James.

Mrs. Powers received her Bachelor’s degree from Marion College and her Master’s from Ball State. She was a second grade teacher at Timothy Ball Elementary School for over thirty years. Joyce was a long time member of Hillside Community Church. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 18, 2016 from 2-4 pm and from 5-7 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. (8178 S. Cline Ave.; Schererville, Indiana 46375).
