Laura Rumiko Salvant was born on June 29, 1951, in Osaka, Japan to Fumiko Hashimoto Green and Albert Green, Jr. Her early years were marked by her family's journey to America, first arriving in Hawaii, then relocating through California, before finally settling in Chicago. In 1953, she was joined by her beloved brother, Albert Akihiko Green (Caren).
Laura's passion for music flourished during her school years. She was known for her exceptionally beautiful singing voice and natural musical talent. She performed in many musical productions, with her most memorable and cherished role being in the school's production of Oliver Twist. Her profound love for the arts would remain an integral part of her identity throughout her life, shaping her creative expressions and artistic endeavors. During her high school years, she demonstrated remarkable academic excellence. She always was at the top of her class! However, she also felt a deep spiritual calling that led her to seriously consider dedicating her life to becoming a nun.
In 1969, she married her high school sweetheart, Cyril Eric Salvant I, who preceded her in death. Their union was blessed with six wonderful children, Racquel (Anthony, predeceased), Cyril II (Yolanda), Cara (Dyrail), Renee, Charles (Anneice), and Jean Paul (predeceased, Jackie). Laura poured her heart into her children, always exposing them to different music, cultures and various forms of art. Professionally, she distinguished herself as a nursing supervisor, a role she would maintain throughout her entire career. Laura dedicated her life to nursing for 45 years. Her compassion touched many lives throughout her years of service in the field.
Laura possessed an unwavering and profound love for Jesus Christ and demonstrated deep reverence for the teaching and the instruction of the Torah. Throughout her life, she served as a spiritual beacon, passionately sharing the message of Christ's love, with not only her children but with everyone she encountered along her journey. Her faith was a cornerstone of her identity, influencing every aspect of her life and relationships. Her love for Christ and music was passed down through generations as she joyfully organized church productions featuring her children and grandchildren. She delighted in teaching them songs, choreographing dance numbers, and watching them perform. Her grandchildren were deeply cherished and nurtured with affection. Gabrielle, Arielle, Kyomi, Cyril III, Etienne, Namir, Adrienne, Noelle, Elysse, Chris, David, Onari, Jae'Nae, Cilver, Xavier, Alex, and Aubrey all will remain her legacy. She also poured her love into her precious great-grandchildren, she treasured Demetrious, Dana, Elijah, Beverli Mae, Alani, Melanie, Anthony, Julien, Giovanni, Matteo, and Cyril IV dearly. Laura also leaves behind two cherished nephews, Akiem and Ian; a beloved niece, Jade; and a host of friends and family.
The overarching theme of Laura's life was chesed (loving-kindness) and mechilah (forgiveness). Her memory will forever be cherished and remain a blessing.
