Lt. Michael Decrescenzo

Lt. Michael Decrescenzo, age 66, of Schererville, IN passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Iris; one son, Michael Anthony (Nieken) Decrescenzo; three grandchildren: Laney, Nathan and Kasey Decrescenzo; three brothers: Sam (Denae) Decrescenzo, Kenneth (Maureen) Decrescenzo and George (Julie) Decrescenzo; two sisters: Sally Dudenski and Sarah (Jon) Harbuck; one sister- in- law, Sandy Decrescenzo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lt. Decrescenzo was preceded in death by his parents: Anthony and Patsy Decrescenzo; and brother, Tony Decrescenzo. Michael was currently a police officer with the Schererville Police Department and obtained a lifetime achievement award for his 37 years of service with the department. He spent the last three years in the department serving as the head of the Traffic Division. He was also a member of the Schererville F.O.P. Lodge #170. Michael was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and was a member of American Legion Post #66 of Griffith, IN. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 S. Cline Ave. (one- half mile south of U.S. 30) Schererville, IN with Police Chaplain Rev. Mick Kopil officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN.
