

Randolph Eric Toney, 85, of Hammond, IN, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Matron Toney, and his dearly beloved daughter, Lillian Balaam-Burl. Randolph is survived by his children, Belinda Jones, April Calvert, Tammy Toney, Nikki (Gustavo) Valdez, Randolph McGowan, Anthony (Kimberly) Puntillo, Jeffrey Balaam, and Michael (Dana) Toney. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a host of extended family.
Anthony Puntillo fondly shared, “For DAD—a great father who showed me what love, hard work, and responsibility look like. Love, Bone.”
Randolph Toney was affectionately known as Mr. Toney, Big Toney, Pops, or Papa and was indeed one of a kind. To know him was to love him. He was a gentleman with a kind soul that touched everyone he met. His wisdom, patience, and unconditional love were hallmarks of his character. Those privileged to witness his life with Matron saw a beautiful example of true love, commitment, and teamwork. He was a humble man, known for his skill on the pool table, often delighting others with his talent and unintentional humor.
Randolph was a great friend and a devoted family man, leading his home with love, understanding, and unwavering conviction. He was a career railroader, having worked 30 years on the railroad. He began his career with two years with New Orleans Public Belt as a (Trackman). He was retired from Amtrak after 28 years of service as on-board services. He has received numerous recognition and awards for extraordinary service, has appeared on the cover of a railroad magazine, and has had articles written about him. He demonstrated remarkable character and earned high respect, both personally and professionally.
A Visitation for Randolph will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. A Funeral Service will occur Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM, with a Committal Service immediately following at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery from 2:00 PM to 2:15 PM.
