

Richard Gene Bracken, age 77, of Saint John, IN, formerly Peoria, IL, Tarriffville, CT, & Milton, WI, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at the Residences of Deer Creek Memory Care, Schererville, IN.
He was a devoted and loving husband, dad, and grandpa. Richard graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelor's degree in Business and went on to receive a Gerontology Certificate from the University of IL. He served as a Sergeant in the Air National Guard in Chicago and Peoria. In 2005, Richard retired after 36 years as a Nursing Home Administrator.
He was "Mr. Fix-It" to friends and family, as well as being known for having a wonderful sense of humor. In retirement, he loved to go to garage sales, enjoyed woodworking and oversaw his antique booth.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy J. Bracken (Aagesen); and his son, Matthew (Stephanie) J. Bracken; three grandchildren, Isabella "Isa" E. Bracken, Riley S. Bracken, and Madeline "Maddie" R. Bracken; his sister, Delores (late Bob) Brookman of CT; his brother, Don (Carol) Bracken of Peoria; sister-in-law, Phyllis Bracken; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and his little dog, MacKenzie, who was his constant companion.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Rosalie Bracken; brothers, Wesley Bracken, Harold Bracken and his wife, Evelyn; and sister, Juanita Gutshall and her husband, James Gutshall.
In fulfillment of his wishes, a Memorial Service is planned for 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. Rev. Erika D. Brooks will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society. We love you, Richard, and you will be dearly missed, but you have left us so many beautiful memories.
