

Robert Andrew Johnsen, age 65, of Highland, passed away peacefully at the University of Chicago, on April 7, 2014 with his family at his side. He was born January 8, 1949 in Hammond, IN to the late Robert William and Ruth Ann (Wilson) Johnsen. Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Esther (Woolard) Johnsen along with their children: Robert W. (Amanda) Johnsen, Brandi Johnsen, and Jonathan Johnsen, all of Highland; grandchildren: Andrew and Nicholas Johnsen, and Katelin and Bianca Sears; brothers and sisters: Sharon (Allen) Smith of Bristol, VA, Rick (Kathy) Johnsen of Griffith, Carol (Greg) Nelson of Mankato, MN, Connie (Bob) Matt of Lawrenceville, GA, and Annie (Michael) Cohen of Plantation, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. After graduating from Munster High School in 1967, Robert selflessly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was the owner and operator of J&K Environmental Services of East Chicago, IN. While raising his children, Robert was an active coach for the Highland Babe Ruth and Little Leagues. He was a loyal and dedicated White Sox and Blackhawks fan. Robert also became a sports enthusiast for his grandchildren's sporting events, attending their hockey, basketball, and baseball games. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 S. Cline Ave., Schererville, IN 46375). Visitation will be Friday, April 11, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
