Sylvia Dembowski

Sylvia F. Dembowski, age 97, of Gary, IN, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2016 with her loving family at her side. Sylvia was born January 31, 1919 in East Chicago, IN, to the late Frank and Stanistawa (Jankowski) Lewandowski. Also preceding her in death are her sisters, Alice and Delores; and a brother, Stanley. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Ed (Susan) Dembowski, and Ron Dembowski; grandchildren: Derek, Anton (Sumai) and Kiera Dembowski; great grandchildren: Maxwell, Triston, Ian and Mackalah. Mrs. Dembowski helped run the Bingo Hall at the East Chicago American Legion for years. Sylvia was a talented cook and baker, and enjoyed showing her love for her family by cooking. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Visitation will be Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 S. Cline Ave., Schererville, IN 46375), with Fr. Steve Kosinski officiating. Visitation will continue after the service until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made towards Harbor Light Hospice (1841 E Summit St, Crown Point, IN 46307).
