Bernard Gordon Crotty, age 76, of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully on Friday August 3, 2018 surrounded by his family. Bernard was born Tuesday March 31, 1942 in Buffalo, New York to Irene and Gordon Crotty. He was the first born of four siblings; Bernard, Martin, Patricia, and Michael.
Bernard grew up in Buffalo, New York. He graduated from McKinley High School where he studied horticulture. After high school he attended Bryant and Stratton Business School of Accounting. He had several careers throughout his life, including Accounting/Bookkeeping, Horticulture, and Retail Garden Center Management/Sales.
In 1965 Bernard married his best friend and love of his life, Shirley Leto, at Annunciation Church in Buffalo New York. In 1976, they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Christina. In 2006 Christina married Ryan Rogers. Bernard and Shirley became grandparents with the birth of grandsons Vaughn and Burke, now 10 and 9 years old.
Bernard was known to friends and family as Bern or Bernie. Bernard enjoyed gardening, volunteering with Neighborhood Watch Patrol for the Dallas Police Department, and googling/researching everything. His two favorite spots were in his home office, at his desk googling on his laptop or forwarding his daughter, Christina, political emails or at the head of the kitchen table grazing on fruit, nuts, and watching Fox News. He enjoyed listening to Neil Diamond. If you knew Bernie well, you probably heard him say either, “People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones,” or “Heavens to Murgatroyd!”
Bernard was a member of The Knights of Columbus and All Saints Catholic Church where he was an Usher, Master of Ceremonies and Eucharistic Minister. Whenever he traveled during the summer he tried to locate a Mariachi Mass to attend.
Bernard will be remembered as a happy, loving, devoted Christian family man. He will be deeply missed and warmly remembered.
