

Carolyn E. Hughes passed away on July 15, 2015 at the age of 89. She was born Carolyn Kovalovsky in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1925. After high school, Carolyn went to nursing school, and later served her country as a nurse in the United States Navy. During her time as a Navy nurse, she met her husband of 51 years, Freddie Joe (Fred) Hughes. She was a devoted wife and mother. Carolyn and Fred traveled and lived in many countries, including Canada, Italy, Ethiopia, Morocco, Zaire, and South Africa during Fred’s career first with the Navy and later with the Department of State. Upon Fred’s retirement in 1986, they settled in Richmond, Virginia. Fred passed away in July 2001, and Carolyn moved to Plano, Texas in 2004. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Andrew and Valeria Kovalovsky, her husband, Freddie Joe Hughes and three of her brothers: Joseph, Andrew and Anthony Kovalovsky. She’s survived by her two children, Mark Hughes of Manassas, Virginia and Debra Copley of Plano, Texas, and their respective spouses, Joyce Hughes and John Copley. She also leaves behind three grandsons, Jonathan Hughes and Paul and Jack Copley, and a granddaughter, Jennifer Hughes. Also surviving Carolyn are her brother John Kovalovsky of Bath, Pennsylvania and sister Elizabeth Arnold of Allentown, Pennsylvania.
