Following his graduation from Dodge City High School in 1953, Ross spent two years studying at Dodge City College, where he was a member of the cheerleading squad. He earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Wichita State University in 1957, followed by a master’s degree in chemistry in 1959. While working as a teaching assistant at Wichita State, Ross met student Diana Holmes, and the two married on August 16, 1958. They had three children—Jeffery, Darren and Danna—and were happily married for 45 years, until Diana’s death in February 2004. Later in life, Ross reconnected with his high-school sweetheart, Jane Kerbs, and the two married in June 2005. Ross and Jane built a wonderful life together in Cross Roads, Texas, where Ross served as a City Council Member and was elected Mayor in 2011. The two shared many travels, including annual trips to their beloved Big Island of Hawaii. Jane passed away in December 2017.
Ross worked at Texas Instruments for 35 years before retiring as the head of the TI Chemical Operations Department. He then went on to do consulting work for Air Liquide for several years. He was an avid coin collector, especially of English-hammered coins, and was a founding member of Numismatics International in 1964.
Ross is survived by children Jeffery Schraeder, Darren Schraeder and wife Tina, and Danna Banick; brother Lynn Schraeder and wife Claire; grandchildren Jordan, Jeremy, Meredith and Chloe Schraeder; sisters-in-law Judy Holmes, Rozanne Holmes, Kathy Dexter and husband Steve; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Jane’s sisters, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved like his own.
Ross was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Frances Schraeder; wife Diana Holmes Schraeder; wife Jane Kerbs Schraeder; son-in-law Blain Banick; and brothers-in-law Mike Holmes and Charlie Holmes.
