

Dorothy Elizabeth Dean Rose – born June 20th, 1916 - left this earth November 11, 2015. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, principal, superintendent, mentor, traveler, friend and advisor. She grew up in Gorman, Texas and after completing high school at 15, she attended TWU and graduated from Baylor University in 1936 with a BA in Education. In 1937, she married Neal Rose whom she met while in Baylor. Neal joined the Navy and she followed him to New Orleans, San Diego and San Antonio where she made a home for their two daughters, Deanna and Denise. After the Navy they moved to Gorman, Texas and stayed there until 1949 when the family moved to Morton, Texas. Dorothy began teaching 2nd grade in Morton where her extensive education career bloomed. She received her Masters degree and Superintendent Certification from Texas Tech University. She was a teacher, Curriculum Coordinator, Jr. High Principal, Director of Special Programs and after retirement returned to be the interim Superintendent, one of the three women superintendents in Texas. Dorothy was a Silver-Haired Legislator, Silver-Haired Congressman, Federated Clubs Woman of the Year, Texas Clubwoman of the Year, Morton Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year and included in Who’s Who of American Woman. She was a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star and an officer of the 1936 Study Club. She was an active member of the Morton First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She traveled extensively, covering all continents except Antarctica, before moving from Morton in 2005 to El Dorado Retirement Community in Richardson. There she lived an active life for the next 10 years playing Bridge, Bingo and attending Bible Study at Richardson First Baptist Church. She was active in the Roadrunner Bible Study class where her out-spoken comments endured her to the class. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Molly Dean, her husband, Neal Rose and siblings, LaRue Ormsby and Jimmie Dean. She is survived by daughters Deanna Van Pelt, Denise Moulton, and grandchildren, Neal Alan Van Pelt, Valerie Paulukaitis, Brian Van Pelt, Michelle Lindle, Todd Moulton and great grandchildren, Courtney, Callie and Tanner Lindle, Katie, Johnathan, Daniel and Aaron Paulukaitis, Makayla and Meredith Moulton and Tatum, Ava and Cullen Van Pelt. Services will be on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 10 AM in Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church Richardson located on the NW corner of Central Expressway and Arapaho Road.
