Karen Fae Strand (nee Haresnape) passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025. One day before her 85th Birthday. Karen was born on a farm in Smith County Kansas to Robert and Audra Haresnape on October 13, 1940. Life on the farm was challenging during that era, and at the age of 8 she lost her mother to cancer, and their home to fire in the same year. She attended a one room school house through middle school, often travelling to and from with her brother and cousins on horseback. She graduated from Smith Center High School in 1958, and married Gary Lloyd Reid that same year, becoming a Naval wife. Relocating many times, they lived in Newport, RI; Pensacola, FL; San Diego, CA; Memphis, TN; and Guam. They had two children before settling in Plano, TX.
Karen never met a stranger. She was sweet and kind to everyone. A classy lady with a great sense of humor, who lit up any room she was in. This was a perfect match for her partner, Jack Strand, who she married in 1993.
Jack and Karen spent their retirement years staying very busy. They traveled around the U.S. attending antique engine shows, visiting family, and sight-seeing in all 50 states. They often enjoyed cruises, as well as other trips and destinations.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Audra, and step mom Lilly; sisters Sherry and Sally; and husband Jack.
She is survived by her son Allen Reid (Nelida); daughter Laurie Rice (Eddie); step-son Mike Strand; step-daughter Lisa Joswick (Paul); sister Connie Lumpkin (nee Crocker); and brother Robert Haresnape. She will be missed by 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held by the family. She will be laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lebanon, Kansas at a date to be determined.
