

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Marie (Gilmore) Nickerson, 94, of Fairhope, AL, who departed from this world on August 27, 2023, reuniting with her cherished husband James Nickerson in God’s kingdom. Marie brought immeasurable love, faith, creativity and inspiration into the lives of her family and friends, leaving an indelible mark that will be remembered forever.
Marie is survived by her five beautiful children, Lisa Lowenberg of Buffalo, NY, Leslie Nickerson (Jim Rademacher) of Panama City, FL, Jill Fallon (Michael) of Dallas,TX, Jeffrey Nickerson of Cambridge MA , Holly Hall of Ashburn,VA ; five adoring grandchildren and eight precious great grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister Janet Castner of Bradenton,FL.
Marie was an an award winning artist, exhibited in juried shows in over 20 museums and art centers in the US. She was a signature member of the Alabama, Southern and Kentucky Watercolor Societies. For over four decades, she was a part of the local art community having membership in the Mobile Watercolor Society, Mobile Art Association, Eastern Shore Art Association and the Bay River Art Guild. While participating in their juried shows she won numerous awards including “Best of Show”. Her paintings are in collections all over the United States as well as Europe and Canada.
In addition to her love of art, she was an avid reader, champion Bridge Player, world traveler with Jim, and the best first mate on their sailboat, the “Genesis.”
The celebration of life for Marie will be on Friday, September 15th at Grace Anglican Church, 817 Estella Street, Fairhope officiated by Rev. Scott Davis. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00am until time of service at 11:00.
Marie will be taken to rest with her beloved husband at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort following the service.
