

A proud Dallas native, Paul was a 1969 graduate of James Madison High School, where he was a member of the tennis team and developed a lifelong passion for the sport. Tennis remained central to Paul’s life for decades. After graduation, he joined the 40-Love Tennis Club, where he played competitive tennis, and he was a dedicated supporter of professional tennis matches throughout the DFW area. The game was not merely a pastime for Paul—it was a defining part of who he was.
Paul devoted many years of service to The Dallas Morning News, where he worked as a department manager. He was respected for his strong work ethic, dependability, and dedication to excellence. He took great pride in his work and valued contributing to an organization that served and informed the community. He later concluded his professional career after ten years as an IT consultant.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Finas and Annabelle Royal; his brothers, Willie Joe Royal and Forrest Royal; and his sister, Edga Jean Gray.
Paul leaves to cherish his memory, a soulmate of 45 years, Juanita Jones-Royal; his beloved daughter, Brittany Alesha Royal; his siblings, Jesse Royal (Arnetha), Portia Royal, Tonya Royal, and Michael Nelson (Timila); along with a host of extended family members and friends who will remember him with love and respect.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, located at 7990 President George Bush Turnpike, Dallas, Texas 75252.
Paul’s legacy of dedication, perseverance, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
