Yolanda Theresa Popoy, age 72, of Earlimart, California passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. She was born on January 12th, 1951 in Delano, California She grew up in the town of Earlimart and later married the love of her life, Ernesto Popoy, of whom she was with for 60 plus years.
Yolanda worked as a field worker for many years, but decided to go back to college to further her education. While attending school at San Joaquin Valley College, she continued to work in the fields. She would oftentimes be doing school work on her lunches and breaks, under the grape vines. Her hard work would later pay off as she graduated Valedictorian of her class with an Associates Degree in Business. She would go on to become a bookkeeper for Save Mart Supermarket for 14 years.
Yolanda loved to spend time with her husband taking fishing trips to the beach and local lakes. She was very much into arts and crafts. Each year she would make heirloom Christmas ornaments for her children and grandchildren.
Yolanda is survived by her husband Ernesto Popoy; children Monika Popoy, Ernie Popoy Jr., and Christina Dizon; six beautiful grandkids Mo, Cameron, Noah, Kalea, Kaleb and Jayden, and two great grand kids Ryan and Indy; sister, Lupe Toralba and brother, John Peñida.
A visitation for Yolanda will be held Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Delano, 707 Browning Rd., Delano, CA 93215. A rosary will occur Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 4:00 PM, 707 Browning Rd., Delano, CA 93215. A mass of Christian burial will occur Friday, April 21, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Mary's of the Miraculous Medal Parish, 916 Lexington St., Delano, CA 93215. A committal service will occur Friday, April 21, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at North Kern District Cemetery, 627 Austin St., Delano, CA 93215.
