Jeanne was born in Brownwood, Texas, October 24, 1936 and moved with her family to Denison at the age of three. Jeanne graduated from Denison High School and attended Grayson County College. For many years Jeanne and Joe worked as a team. They established Burtis Construction, building many quality homes in Grayson County. Jeanne then branched off into Real Estate and obtained her Broker license, working with Jack Smart Realty, Jim Perry Realtors and retiring from Dean Gilbert Realtors. She was very proud of her profession and took great pride in working with generations of families to find their ideal home. Through the years Jeanne was a member of the Texas Board of Realtors, Women’s Council of Realtors – Grayson County Chapter, Junior Alpha Delphi Club, The Garden Club and Denison Service League. Jeanne enjoyed playing the piano and her favorite time at the keyboard was with her brother singing the gospel. She also enjoyed Lake Texoma, crocheting, antiquing and spending time with family and friends. In her later years her favorite time was her Sunday morning TV worship with “In Search of the Lords Way”, out of Edmond, Oklahoma.
Jeanne is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, D’Ann and Larry Ellis Sr. and Dana and Kevin Farley and her constant companion “Buddy”, her Yorkie. Jeanne is also survived by a special “cousinfriend”, Paula Miller Dalrymple, her grandchildren, Cole Gatlin and wife Lisa, Canaan Farley, Suellen Long, Chris Gatlin and wife Jessica, Candace Trotter and husband Jeremy, Emilee Maddox and husband Jarrod, Larry Willis Jr. and wife Jennifer, Nicole Garza, Kristen Burtis, Katie Jo Burtis, 18 great-grandchildren, many cousins and life-long friends. Jeanne was preceded in death by her son, Joe Cox Burtis, Jr., brother, Donald Elmo Lankford, parents, Lemuel Elmo and Coquilla “Coke” Lankford and her children’s father, Joe Cox Burtis, Sr.
Family visitation will be held Thursday, June 21, 2018 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Bratcher Funeral Home located at 401 W. Woodard Street, Denison, Texas 75020. Services will be held Friday, June 22, 2018 10:00 a.m. at Bratcher Funeral Home performed by Todd Catteau. Jeanne will be laid to rest at Cederlawn Memorial Park, 5805 Texoma Parkway, Sherman, Texas 75090 next to her beloved son and carried to her final resting place by her grandsons.
