

Mr. Fontenot was born on March 19, 1930 to Houston Fontenot Sr. of Eunice and Claylee Robinson of St. Martinville, La. He completed high school at Sacred Heart in Lake Charles in 1948. He later joined and served in the Army and achieved the ranking of a Staff Sargent. Upon completion of his duties with the US Army he then volunteered in the National Guard. Charles was employed with Union Pacific Railroad for 43 years.
Charles first married Carrie Bell Cooks and this love lasted 40 years, filled with travel, laughter, and great moments. To this union they had 3 children; Noel Havis (daughter) and husband Roland, Anita Dennison (daughter) and husband Ezekiel and Charles Fontenot Jr. (son); grandchildren, Quintis Havis and Desiree’ Swan, Katherine and Roland Edison Jr., and Ashley, Chaz and Candace Fontenot; great grandchildren, Nijahl Thomas, Aaden and Camren Nicholas, and Cameron, Connor and Myles McWilliams.
Charles married and introduced the world to Rosemary. They traveled around the world, from Rome to Antiqua, from Martinique to Hawaii experiencing all that life had to offer. Charles was a cool dude who loved smooth jazz and a nice glass of wine. He was truly a man of distinction, a dapper dresser who enjoyed fine cars and travel. He enjoyed working in the yard and being active in the church and community. He was an active member in the 3rd Degree of DeQuincy Knights of Columbus Council 8805 with Msgr. Kramer 4th Degree.
Charles inherited 1 daughter, Lydia Carriere and 1 granddaughter, Britni Carriere. Charles would never leave out the ones that always kept him going, his dogs, Sam (who died 3 years ago) and Barney the singing dog. Whenever he was down they would always bring new life. Mr. Fontenot was preceded in death by his parents; Houston & Clayleee (Robinson) Fontenot; his first wife, Carrie Bell Cooks Fontenot; brothers, Houston Fontenot, Jr. and Elmo Fontenot.
His funeral will be at 11:00am Saturday, August 17, in Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church of DeQuincy with Father Edward Brunnert. Burial will be in Paradise Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, August 16 from 4:00pm until 9:00pm in Hixson Snider Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary at 7:00p.m.
